La Fin de siècle

Christmas is over, again.

This means that I can now post photos of finished Christmas presents plus action shots!

First up is David’s cabled scarf.

Yarn: Handspun Bulky from handpaintedyarn.com in "Forest"

Pattern: I used the cable pattern from the Log Cabin Socks (Handknit Holidays

This turned out really well.  The yarn is really soft and squishy.  The scarf ended up growing about 11" when I blocked it.  The finished length is about 7′4".

Next up is the lovely chullo I made for my schmoopie, Lucas.

This was taken before I added the pom pom and wove in the ends.

Digital cameras are for losers.

Yarn: Colonia 140 from handpaintedyarn.com in "Continental Blue" and "Verde Adriana"

Pattern: Basically it’s the earflap pattern from Last Minute Knitted Gifts, but I added color patterns from Knitty’s Vinter Lue and Swell.  Also, I didn’t make the length of the hat the insane 9" that they called for.  I think it was about 7 or so inches before I started the decreases.  I was so worried the hat would be too tall for Lucas, because it was absolutely huge on me.  Look at the bottom right frame of the above photo.  I can pull the damn hat down to my chin.  Thankfully, it fits Lucas perfectly.

The Great Purging

Fuck it.

Amy, I am going to join you in this "Knit From Your Stash 2007" thing.  I’ve been meaning to since I first started buying yarn, but I seriously need to do it.

I’ve been cleaning my room today in a sort of post-semester catharsis, getting rid of all the crap I’ve amassed in the past few months.  I have this big metal stacky thing I bought at Ikea and I was replacing some yarn that had been lying out for awhile and it kind of collapsed.  I managed to get it put back together, but that required moving yarn to other places.  :(   My yarn has grown too heavy.

Some of the stuff I’m going to attempt to sell or give away because there’s no way I’m going to find something I’ll like to knit from it.  (Can we say yarn swap acrylic crap I took home because it looked lonely?  blech) I think I have enough knitting books to find patterns for most of it, but I will need some help for a few items.

So, in following Amy, I’ll post some photos later of my stash.  The good, the bad, and the really really ugly.

p.s. I finished the scarf and I’m *this* close to finishing the earflap hat.  Whee!

A sigh of relief.. almost

This semester is finally over and I think I probably got ok grades.  Not stellar or spectacular, but not abysmal either.  I would be ready to relax except for the fact that I have lots of knitting to get done in the next few days!  Yeah yeah, schoolwork, blah blah.  I haven’t gotten much knitting done in the past few weeks because of it.  (I’m just being facetious)

To Do:

1. a button to sew on a felted clutch for my friend Tiffany.  hm.. I made this in the summer and it still hasn’t got a button!

2. a cabled scarf for my friend David.  It’s more than 5′ long and I intend to make it 6′, I should finish this quickly.

3. a fair isle earflap hat for Lucas.  I’ll probably finish this fairly quickly also.

4. "Curiously Clever Clogs" from stitchdiva.com for my mummy.  I don’t even have the first one completed yet.  I’m afraid these may not be finished by Christmas Eve. I might just have to put an IOU in a box. emoticon  !!!! That reminds me of the hilarious music video from SNL last Saturday.. Dick in a Box.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-5grqhj1b8

Methinks this will be a nice relaxing evening of baking and knitting.  ahhh

Fabelaktig!

Apparently that’s Norwegian for FABULOUS.

These babies are finally finished and I can’t tell you how excited about them I am.  These are based on Nancy Bush’s Norwegian Stockings found in her book Folk Socks.  Back in April, I started knitting the first one and made it all the way to the heel turn, but I absolutely hated it.  Too many gaping holes!  (one more reason why I haven’t knit socks)   I decided I’d get more wear out of legwarmers, so I ripped back to just above the ankle, increased to give it a flare, knit until the right length and then bound off in 2x2 rib.  These took me over 6 months of off and on knitting with glorified toothpicks (US3), but it was so worth it.  I love these things.  p.s. The color is more accurate in the "kicky" photos.

GRRRRRRRRRRR

I’m kind of stuck on the High Neck top.  This is the most bitch ass motherfuckin’ expletive expletive pattern ever.  I kind of hate it except for the fact that it will look so lovely when it’s finished.  I’m a little confused by the neck instructions and very soon I’ll have to do some crochet, which I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO.  I can barely single chain.  I think I do it backwards or something.  I really must wait until finals are over until I start actually working on this thing again.

Speaking of Eschool, I really haven’t been doing much knitting lately.  I made one lace thingy for the embellished v-neck.  I need to make 5 more.  Thankfully they go really fast and are easy to knit.  I am so glad my last two classes are tomorrow.  UGH.

P.S.  I have finally set up an Etsy shop!! :: http://MAANSLOEP.ETSY.COM   I only have one item for sale right now, but I plan on adding photographs maybe next week.  I think once I get my current major knitting projects out of the way, I’ll just buy a bunch of hpy and make lots and lots of gorgeous scarves to sell there.  WHEEEE!
